Dying Teenager Receives Phone Call From METALLICA's ULRICH
May 26, 2004Lanita Withers of News-Record.com is reporting that a terminally ill teenager got a phone call in April in the hospital from Lars Ulrich, the drummer from his favorite band, METALLICA.
Band members had heard about Christopher's battles with a form of muscle cancer and phoned him before their concert in Charlotte.
They invited him to their next concert in Roanoke, Va., but he was too sick to go. So, the band sent someone to the hospital with a T-shirt, an autographed play list from the Charlotte concert and a recording of the band singing "Nothing Else Matters", a song they've dedicated to Christopher for the rest of their tour.
Christopher fought his illnesses and lived his life with zest, those who knew him said.
Near the end of April, doctors told Christopher's family there wasn't anything else they could do for the teen, and sent him home.
"He wasn't afraid to die," said his grandmother. "All his concerns were mostly on how sad everyone would be once he was gone."
Christopher died at home Friday (May 21),surrounded by friends and family. [Read more]
